In 2023, a massive book was released called the Oxford Guide to Australian Languages. With over 1000 pages, a few dozen authors and 78 chapters, it is a major source of information for any linguist interested in Australian languages.
Included in the volume is a chapter on Kriol, by Greg Dickson, which provides an overview of the major features of the languages. It is a good summary for anyone with some knowledge of linguistics to help them understand the mechanics of Kriol better and also find out more about aspects like the state of the language and aspects of communication.
